Winger Church

Worship services are in English and are about 60 minutes in length. Services begin with the worship band leading praise and worship. Song lyrics are projected onto a screen, so you can sing along and participate in worship. After the music portion of the service is complete, the pastor shares an encouraging and hope-filled message about Jesus. Every week, the congregation is led in communion.

Kids participate in the first part of the service. Then, they are invited to join "kids church."

Over the years, Winger Church's impact on the Wainfleet community has grown through community dinners and toy drives.  In December 2023, for its annual Christmas Toy Drive, the church and community collected and donated:

• 125 toys
• 100 winter hats
• 100 pairs of winter mittens
• 700 lbs of food
• $6300.00

In 1838, George Thompson and Thomas Bradt, moved to Winger, married two sisters, gathered a following, and became the charter members of a new congregation in Christ. Winger Church became a fixture in the rural farming community of Wainfleet, Ontario.  At first, the congregation used the local school house to hold their meetings. In 1885, the first building on Winger Road was erected. In 1894, for the church's 40th anniversary, the present building was built.  

In 1992, a major building campaign took place to renovate the existing sanctuary and to add a fellowship hall, kitchen, offices, an elevator, and a new parking lot. Two years later, the project was completed on the 150th anniversary year of the church. In 2009, on the church's 165th anniversary, more upgrades were undertaken. saw further upgrades. 

Winger Church is located on the main road - Highway 3 - of Wainfleet, Ontario. Wainfleet is located in South Niagara between the Welland River and Lake Erie. Although it is primarily an agricultural community, its proximity to the lakeshore and beaches, makes it a popular destination for cottagers. 

Winger Church is a 30-minute drive to the Disciples Conference Grounds - a campground that is shared by Ontario Disciples churches and managed by the Ontario Assembly of the Christian Church. The church is only a 45-minute drive to Niagara Falls and a 60-minute drive to Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Pastor Stephen's journey in ministry began in 2007 when he wholeheartedly embraced his calling. Starting as the Children's Pastor at Calvary Pentecostal Church, he discovered a profound love for ministering to the youngest members of the congregation. With a passion for fostering spiritual growth, Pastor Stephen's commitment led him to transition into youth ministry, where he dedicated his time to discipling young hearts to love God and people.

In 2017, an exciting opportunity arose, calling Pastor Stephen to Kamloops, BC. There, he planted a campus church and, with unwavering dedication, nurtured its growth to just over a hundred people. After this successful chapter, he returned to Ontario, having left an indelible mark on the community he served.

Since 2021, Pastor Stephen has served as the Interim Pastor at Winger Church. Known for his passion for preaching and teaching God's word, Pastor Stephen is often found with his face in a book, continually seeking to deepen his understanding and share insights with the congregation.

Beyond his ministry, Pastor Stephen is blessed with a supportive family. He shares life's journey with his amazing wife, Sarah, and their three wonderful children—Jaelynn, Micah, and Joel. Together, they stand as a testament to the joy and fulfillment found in a life devoted to faith, family, and service.
